Well known South African veteran actress Shaleene Surtie-Richards has died at a guest house in Cape Town. The actress was in Cape Town to shoot scenes of a series named Arendsvlei. She passed away at the age of 66.
Shaleene Surtie-Richards, multi-award-winning actress starred in various iconic roles, including those in Fiela se Kind and Egoli. She also won more than 40 awards for her outstanding work in the entertainment industry. People across the country continue to send their heartfelt condolences to her family.
Eyewitness News reported that Marlene le Roux, Artscape theatre CEO said that the actress would be sorely missed. “It was not just a role; it was the lives of persons of colour. I think that’s why she could make that role an iconic role. Her back character was not just a character, it was Shaleen. That is why for us it is an iconic South African person we have lost.”
Vinette Ebrahim, friend and actress said that she Shaleene was an inspiration to many and that she has left behind a trail of work and that of love. Ebrahim added that what is happening on Facebook is proof that she has touched a lot of people especially the youth.
Mfundi Vundla, film producer said that in his view, Shaleen was one of the greatest dramatic actors in the country with a great comic sense.
