On Monday, 07 June, Iqbal Sharma who was arrested last week appeared before the Blomfontein Magistrates Court for his bail application. The bail application was postponed to Tuesday.
The suspect is one of the four suspects that were arrested last week and he is the only one yet to be granted bail. Lemakatso Moorori and Seipati Dlamini, former officials have been granted R10 000 bail each and Peter Thabethe became the latest suspect to be granted R10 000 bail.
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) voiced out that it believes that the suspect should be denied bail because he is a flight risk and appears to be a crucial player in the criminal network, which freely accessed documents from home affairs. Outa added that he was a key player in the Free State and the looting of Transnet and has huge sums of looted state funds.
