
Six bus passengers died and 57 escaped with multiple wounds during a tragic bus accident on Friday, 21 May. The deceased were burnt beyond recognition when the bus they were travelling in from Marabastad, Pretoria to Tweefointein in Kwandebele burst into flames.

The horrific accident occurred on the Moloto Road. Charles Mabaso, city of Tshwane emergency spokesperson said the city’s emergency services received a call about a bus on fire on the Moloto Road just after the Roodeplaat at about 13:52pm. Mabaso added that the driver informed fire-fighters that he was told that the bus was on fire and he stopped immediately.
“The driver indicated that the bus was carrying 63 commuters from Marabastad in Tshwane to Tweefontein in Mpumalanga. The cause of the fire is not yet known and the deceased have not yet been identified,” he said.
Isaac Mahamba, head of Pretoria metro told Flare FM that the injured were transported to KwaMhlanga hospital, Montana hospital while one commuter was airlifted to Milpark hospital in Johannesburg.
