Spring vacation classes kick starts: by Thabiso Ricky

To try and curb the lower pass rate in certain schools, the Mpumalanga Department of Education has organised 66 spring vacation centres to cater for 11 881 grade 12 learners from schools which performed below the 70% mark in 2019 National Senior Certificate examinations.

942 teachers have been selected to teach in these centres from Monday, 26 October to 30 October, focusing on 11 high enrolment subjects. The MEC for Education Bonakele Majuba visited Mabophe Secondary School centre in Mmametlake at the DR JS Moroka Local Municipality on Monday. The centre hosted three schools which are Mmametlake, and Rathanhana Secondary School and Mmabophe Secondary School, with a total of 425 grade 12 learners.

The Department will provide nutrition to all learners and scholar transport where there is a need. “We intend to support all schools and non performing schools so that they can all move beyond the 70% performance mark. Our main focus is on quality passes as we expect our learners to pass with good grades,’ said Majuba.
